- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together in a mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix until combined.
- Add the dry ingredients and stir just until the flour disappears.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers still look slightly soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Sprinkle with flaky salt if desired.
Notes
Do not overbake the cookies. The centers should still look slightly soft when they come out of the oven, because they will continue to set as they cool. For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 20 to 30 minutes before baking.
