Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 4 slices sandwich bread or sourdough bread
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 1 large ripe tomato sliced
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Avocado optional
  • Fried egg optional
  • Spicy mayo optional

Equipment

  • 1 skillet
  • 1 toaster
  • 1 knife
  • 1 cutting board

Method

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet until crisp.
  2. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  3. Toast the bread until golden and crisp.
  4. Slice the tomato and season lightly with salt and black pepper.
  5. Spread mayonnaise on the toasted bread.
  6. Layer lettuce, tomato, and bacon on two slices of bread.
  7. Add avocado, fried egg, or spicy mayo if desired.
  8. Top with the remaining bread slices.
  9. Cut the sandwiches in half and serve right away.

Notes

Use ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. Toast the bread well so the sandwich does not get soggy. A BLT is best served fresh, but you can cook the bacon ahead and assemble the sandwich right before eating.
