- Cook the bacon in a skillet until crisp.
- Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Toast the bread until golden and crisp.
- Slice the tomato and season lightly with salt and black pepper.
- Spread mayonnaise on the toasted bread.
- Layer lettuce, tomato, and bacon on two slices of bread.
- Add avocado, fried egg, or spicy mayo if desired.
- Top with the remaining bread slices.
- Cut the sandwiches in half and serve right away.
Notes
Use ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. Toast the bread well so the sandwich does not get soggy. A BLT is best served fresh, but you can cook the bacon ahead and assemble the sandwich right before eating.
